I can't believe it is already October. I have no idea where the year has gone.
The beginning of October has been very busy. On Saturday, I went to Ottawa for the Grand Bethel Official Visit for the Illinois Job's Daughters. Job's Daughters is an organization for young women between the ages of 10 and 20 with Masonic heritage. I have been involved with this wonderful organization for 13.5 years. To find out more information you can visit the following links: http://www.iljd.org The Illinois Job's Daughters webpage or http://www.iojd.org The International Order of Job's Daughters webpage.
On Wednesday, I went to Springfield for the Order of the Eastern Star Grand Chapter Installation. I have only been involved with this organization for like 4 years now, and in December I will be installed as the Worthy Matron (the leader) of my Eastern Star Chapter. It was nice to see that the Eastern Star members allowed all of the youth groups (Illinois Demolay, Illinois Rainbow for Girls, and Illinois Job's Daughters) to participate in the installation. The youth are our future!!
On Friday, there was no school because we had the county institute. I went to a workshop on how to get students moving and active in math class. I liked the activities that the ladies presented using real world experiences to teach parabolas with a soft football or pillow and a rocket launcher. They also showed the linear regression with the bungee jumping of Barbies. These activities also used the TI-84 Plus calculator, and I hope that this year I can come up with some activities for my own math class to use with the TI calculators.
Then on Friday afternoon, I was able to visit with a good friend that I haven't seen in awhile. It was fun to sit and talk about what has been going on and playing with the toddler at her house. After I got back home, my sister came over for awhile, and we got all of the stuff for her Christmas cards ready. Now I hope to get some card and scrapbooking done, too.
